IUI — Intrauterine Insemination — Healia Women’s Health, Dubai
02What it is

Intrauterine insemination places washed and concentrated sperm directly into the uterus during ovulation, bringing sperm closer to the egg and shortening the distance they must travel. The procedure itself takes only about 15–20 minutes, is usually painless, and is often the first fertility treatment offered. It may be combined with medication that stimulates ovulation.

03Who it's for

IUI may help couples with unexplained infertility, mild male-factor subfertility (reduced sperm count, motility or morphology), cervical-factor infertility where thick mucus blocks sperm, endometriosis-related difficulty, or ovulation problems. It is often used as an early, less complex step on the fertility journey.

04How we diagnose

During the consultation, Dr. Mustafa Aldam reviews your history and monitors your cycle to find the best time for insemination. Assessment uses ultrasound imaging to track follicle development and hormonal blood tests to confirm timing, so the procedure is planned precisely around ovulation.

05How we treat

If needed, we stimulate ovulation with fertility medication while tracking follicle growth, then may use a trigger injection to release the egg. On the day, the sperm sample is washed and concentrated in the laboratory, and a thin catheter is passed through the cervix to place the prepared sperm into the uterus. You rest briefly afterwards and resume normal activities the same day; sometimes more than one cycle is needed.
